Micah singled out Bethlehem Ephrathah — a small, unimportant town — as the birthplace of Israel's eternal ruler. He wrote it 700 years before Jesus was born there.
The find
Micah 5:2 names Bethlehem Ephrathah (distinguishing it from another Bethlehem in Zebulun) and predicts a ruler whose "origins are from of old, from ancient days." When Herod's scholars were asked where the Messiah would be born, they immediately cited this verse (Matthew 2:5-6). Jesus, though raised in Nazareth, was born in Bethlehem because of the Roman census (Luke 2:1-7).
Why it matters
This is a specific geographical prediction made centuries in advance, beyond human engineering, and fulfilled in exact detail. And the very same passage anchors the Messiah's eternal pre-existence — "his origins are from of old."
