A Roman colony on the Anatolian plateau, Pisidian Antioch was the setting of Paul's synagogue sermon in Acts 13:14-52 and his turning to the Gentiles. Excavated ruins near Yalvaç include a temple of Augustus and a large basilica.
History in Scripture
Paul preached his longest recorded synagogue sermon here (Acts 13), was rejected and turned to the Gentiles, and was later driven out — returning on the way back to strengthen the disciples.
The ancient city
A Roman colony settled with veterans, Pisidian Antioch guarded the Via Sebaste through the highlands of Asia Minor, with a temple to Augustus dominating the city.
The site today
The excavated site near Yalvaç, Türkiye, includes the imperial sanctuary, aqueduct and a Byzantine basilica, with finds displayed in the Yalvaç museum.
