The Binding of Isaac (Aqedah)
A father, a beloved son, a substitute
The shadow (Old Testament)
Abraham was commanded to offer up Isaac, "your son, your only son, whom you love" (Genesis 22:2). Isaac carried the wood for his own sacrifice up the mountain. At the very last moment, God provided a ram caught in a thicket, and Abraham named the place, "the LORD will provide" (Genesis 22:14). Every word of it is doing double duty.

The substance (Christ)
A father willingly gave up his only beloved son. The son carried the wood of his own sacrifice up that same range of hills (Moriah). A substitute died in his place. Centuries later, the New Testament reaches for the same language: "He who did not spare His own Son but delivered Him up for us all" (Romans 8:32). The scene on Moriah was never meant to stand alone.

Apostolic commentary
Hebrews 11:17-19 — Abraham received Isaac back from death "figuratively speaking" (literally "in a parable/type"). The Greek word is *parabolē*.

Take it in
The God who provided the ultimate sacrifice will not withhold any lesser good from those who trust Him. If He gave us His Son, everything else is a smaller question.
